I am a second-year undergraduate at the London School of Economics, reading Economic History.
I attended Cardinal Pole Roman Catholic School in Hackney for my secondary education before being offered a full scholarship from Ashbourne Independent Sixth Form College to complete my A-levels. Being privileged enough to have attended both a private and state school, I noticed a great disparity in the services available to support young people as they progress into higher education. My academic rigour and ambition coupled with guidance from a few teachers has led to a set of achievements that have defied the odds of a regular girl from Hackney. I have been sponsored to attend multiple summer schools at world-leading institutions such as Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, Harvard, Yale, Columbia and UCL. In addition to this, I have interned at a range of financial services firms such as the Bank of America, KPMG and JP Morgan. As a result of this I became the highest earner in my household at the age of only 18.
Having attended such elite institutions, my greatest pain was hearing of the tragedies that were occurring in my hometown and to people I knew I had to do something about it. Since attending the London School of Economics, I have been working closely with the Widening Participation team to support over 50 young students. Now, I wish to come back to my hometown and inspire the students with my story.
